In this online masterclass Joanne is going to share the techniques she used to create one of the looks from her Muses Collection. She will take you through step by step how she creates the foundation, structure and shape using padding and the models hair. Joanne will show how she uses her favourite hero products and hot tools to create workable texture into the hair and how she moulds shape and incorporates hair pieces to achieve the Avant Garde hair style.
Avant Garde may not be an everyday salon requirement but mastering the skills will enable you to think creatively, enter photographic competitions and really hone your Hairdressing skills.
Joanne says “Avant Garde hair to me should be mesmerising and beautiful. I love the freedom and creativity. It exercises your brain. I enjoy getting carried away by it. To me it’s like Couture Fashion, it can be off the wall, ingenious or abstract. It’s my art.”

About Joanne O'Neill
Joanne O’Neill is an award-winning hairdresser with a prestigious salon in the heart of Northern Ireland. As well as her avant-garde styling, she specialises in colouring, cutting and bridal hair. Joanne has been hairdressing for 30 years and opened her eponymous salon in Dunloy 22 years ago.
She has been a finalist three times for Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards and has been named Best of the Best Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year at the Irish Hairdressing Magazine Awards.
She is a regular face on stage, educating and exciting hairdressers across the UK and Ireland, and has been featured on BBC and TV for her stunning work.
“I am passionate about educating hairdressers in the latest techniques to take back to the salon in both cutting and colouring,” Joanne says. “My other passion is avant-garde hairdressing, which is a great way for hairdressers to express themselves and push their creative boundaries."
